Auto Insurance Woes of Teenagers like Me

I am going to college now and finally I will have my own car! My mom persuaded my dad to give me my first car ever. My parents decided to buy another car so that I can use our old car. I didn¡¯t bother to bargain because our car is still in good condition.

I am so excited! It is still months before I finally leave my parents and head off to another chapter of my life: living independently. I am attending school in another state.

I already have my license. I also enrolled in a driving course to gain confidence while handling the steering wheel.

You see, I really love the idea of driving my own car. I even made some research on what are the dos and don¡¯ts for teenager drivers. One of the most important points I read is that teenagers should never drive without car insurance.

But I was appalled when I learned that auto insurance for teenagers is the most expensive type of insurance. I am lucky that my parents can afford to pay for my premium but how about the others? I can not understand why insurance companies will charge us that way.

Do teenagers really deserve high insurance rates? I cannot fathom the reason behind it so I still did more research. According to statistics, teenagers are most likely to be involved in accidents because of our lack of road experience, busy schedules, and night outs. Insurance companies however consider statistics on how they should charge us.

Statistics shows pattern that teenagers are not safe drivers or high risk drivers. Studies also showed that teenagers are more likely to drive sports car which are expensive. Insurance rates are also based on the type of car owned.

Teenagers like me however are relieved to find out that as we grow older, insurance rates will drop. The first year of driving is the most expensive part really.

My parents found a good insurance policy for me through getting auto insurance quotes. Fortunately, the driving course I underwent made me qualify for a discount.
